Things to keep in mind when you have lash extensions and you want to apply makeup

The resistance in time of lash extensions depend very much on the quality of the products used and the technique of the lash artist, but also in the way that you adhere to the caring instructions which you were told during the procedure. In order to ensure that you don’t damage the extensions or even the natural hair when applying makeup, take into account the following aspects:

  1. 1.    Avoid products which contain oil

The oil, which is regularly found in makeup removal products or various cosmetics, is the main enemy of the glue used in applying the lash extensions. It’s important to avoid products with this ingredient, because the extensions will unglue much faster and simply fall, maybe even together with your natural hair.

When removing makeup around the eyes, make sure that you’re using micellar water or makeup removal products which don’t contain oil, for example the Barhat cleaning foam, but you must do gentle, circular motions such that the extensions aren’t damaged due to rubbing. Don’t forget that it’s recommended to remove the makeup daily, even if you’re wearing makeup or not, in order to maintain the lash area clean.

  1. 2.    Avoid waterproof products

Even if we’re talking about eyeliner – the products which you don’t generally need when applying lash extensions, you have to make sure that they aren’t waterproof. The problem that arises when using this type of makeup products is the fact that it’s difficult to remove and they require a makeup removal product that’s based on oil.

If you’re trying to remove the waterproof makeup with a different makeup removal product, most probably you will still damage the natural hairs because of excessive rubbing.

  1. 3.    Take care of which eyeliner you’re using

If you enjoy wearing eyeliner every day and you can’t let go of this habit, it’s necessary that you choose a product that’s based on water and is easily cleaned. The gel or crème eyeliners are difficult to remove and can leave residues at the base of the lash extensions, which can cause premature falling. The pencil styled products are easily attached and they aren’t ideal because they can lead to the dissolving of the lash glue.

After you’ve used a fine textured eyeliner, you can remove makeup with the help of a Q tip rubbed in micellar water. During this process, make sure you don’t touch the base of the lash extensions for too long.

  1. 4.    Be careful when applying eye shadow

If you want to apply a colored eyeshadow, make sure you remove any product excess from the used tool, such that it doesn’t end up on the lash extensions. Use a compact eyeshadow and avoid glitter so that your lashes aren’t affected. If the product has fallen on the extensions, use a anti-lint Q-tip rubbed in makeup removal product that doesn’t contain any oils in order to remove it.

An alternative to use the eyeshadow is the colored lash extensions, which will attract a large attention on the eye area, without requiring the need for a makeup.

  1. 5.    Choose a mascara that’s easy to clean

If, for any reason, you want to apply mascara over the lash extensions, it’s important that you choose a product that’s not waterproof and with a light texture. This product can be useful if you have certain empty spaces between your lashes, here are the steps to follow: 1) start first by combing your lashes with special mascara brushes 2) clean the mascara brush from any surplus of product and 3) apply mascara from the half of the lashes upwards in order to not affect the lash glue.

Don’t ever use mascara for volume over the lash extensions. If you want to enjoy more dramatic lashes, talk to your technician and you may reach the result in time. Also, don’t postpone too long the maintenance appointment, because it will be tougher and tougher for the lash artist to fill in the empty spaces between the extensions and they will have to start over with applying them again.

Lash extensions offer you a deeper gaze and it makes your eyes stand out. If still you feel the need to continue to wear makeup, take into account the advices we’ve given you in order to protect the lashes in time, but also for the health of your natural lashes.
