The lash extensions is often used to get a more natural look and an extended volume, without having to use mascara every time you apply makeup. Besides, this way you can correct the eye’s small defects, for instance if they are too close or too far apart.

If you wish the results from the extension procedure to be the ones you want and that it brings positive feelings, it’s important to understand the technique’s basic mechanisms. The extensions that are ‘correctly’ or ‘wrongly’ applied can prevent many problems that may appear afterwards.

Here are then, more details about how to correctly apply lash extensions.

Techniques for applying lash extensions

The extension techniques are actually two main ways to apply fake lashes:

  1. The traditional way, which involves in applying lashes in small clumps;
  2. The Japanese technique, which means one extension on each natural hair.

Just as important is the volume of the lashes gotten through extension. This can be of many different types and depending on the desired volume effect, the applying techniques can vary:

1.  Incomplete volume

In this case, we’re talking about a correction procedure, which involves extension of the corners or other separate areas.

2.  Complete volume

This is the most common extension type, in this method you get to fill the entire lash line.

3.  2D Volume

To use this method you apply two extensions on a single natural hair. The application method is thus two extensions on one natural hair. They are applied one by one between the natural hairs.

4.  3D Volume

In this case they attach three lash extension on a single natural hair, thus giving more volume. A whole small clump of lashes is applied on a single natural hair.

5.  Hollywood Volume

The extensions in this case can be between 4-20 pieces on a single natural hair. In this case it’s really important that the extensions aren’t heavier than what the eyelid can bear.

Moreover, the lash extension effect is also important. This is done based on preferences and with regards to matching around the eyes. Among the effect there are the following:

  1. Natural effect

A natural effect means using two different lengths, combined, to get a special look for the lashes;

  1. Doll eye Effect

A really expressive look can be gained by using really long lashes. They are best suited for the people with large eyes.

  1. Fox eyes

For this effect you use lashes with three different lengths. The lengths are increased from the eye’s inner corner to the outer one.

  1. Eyeliner effect

This effect is gained by generally mixing curvature types C with the ones L, M or N.

  1. Squirrel effect

This method is about having really large lengths in the eye’s inner corner. The effect doesn’t fit people with ‘fallen eyelids’.

Thus, in order to have a correct lash extension procedure, you have to use proper technique in achieving a certain effect. Each type of extension has these characteristics and nuances that have to be strictly adhered to in the process.

The process to correctly apply lash extensions

In order for the lash extensions to not cause any discomfort after application, we recommend the procedure to be done in a professional lash artist’s salon. You can still apply fake lashes at home. Here are the most important steps:

  • Removing makeup

You have to remove the makeup of the entire face before moving on to the lash application procedure. An effective product removes all traces of cosmetics such as mascara and foundation. Besides, if you’ve applied mascara around the eyes, you have to wait for a minimum of 24 hours if you’ve used a common one, and 3 days to get one that’s resistant to transfer, before doing the lash extensions.

  • Degrease

Degreasing the eye area is done with a lotion that doesn’t contain any oils, so that it doesn’t affect the structure of the glue.

  • Applying the strips on the lower lashes

The strips can be used for protecting the inner eyelids.

  • Applying the extensions using special tweezers

A special notice for correctly applying the lash extensions is that the fake lashes are applied only on adult lashes, that have reached maturity. Besides, the lash glue has to be stored in special conditions, away from high temperature and humidity, between 15-25 degrees Celsius and it shouldn’t be exposed to direct sunlight. For this reason, it’s preferred to have a professional lash artist to help you out.

  • Combing the lashes

Combing the lashes has to be done using a special brush, so that it doesn’t apply too much pressure on them.

  • Removing any strips or patches that were used.

Take into account these tips to correctly apply the lash extension, to prevent the risk of any rashes or allergic reactions popping up. If however this still happens right after the procedure, you have to manually remove the extensions, without using any makeup removal products.
